Hulu has released the first trailer<\/a> for The X-Files: I Want to Believe \u2013 Vrach Frankenshteyn<\/em>, offering fans a preview of writer-director Chris Carter\u2019s long-awaited R-rated director\u2019s cut of the 2008 film. Set to premiere Aug. 14 on Hulu and Disney+, the new version restores Carter\u2019s original, more horror-driven vision after the theatrical release was edited to secure a PG-13 rating. The updated title incorporates the Russian words for \u201cVictor Frankenstein,\u201d reflecting the film\u2019s central inspiration and darker themes.<\/p>\n

The film reunites<\/a> former FBI agents Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, and Dana Scully, portrayed by Gillian Anderson, as they investigate the disappearance of several women and the mysterious case of a missing federal agent. Their only lead comes from a disgraced former Catholic priest who claims to be receiving psychic visions connected to the crimes. The newly released trailer highlights previously unseen footage, intensified violence and suspense, underscoring Carter\u2019s effort to transform the story into the chilling thriller he originally envisioned.<\/p>\n

Released six years after the original television series ended, The X-Files: I Want to Believe<\/em> received mixed reviews and earned about $68 million worldwide, well below the franchise\u2019s first feature film.
